It's Halloween: Everyone's Entitled to One Good List
When I think of Halloween, a lot comes to mind, especially when it comes to movies. We could go spooky, we could go horror, we could go psychological, we could go gruesome, we could go slasher, we could go ultra-violent revenge story or lighthearted whimsical pumpkin tale (which is also my order at Starbucks).
What qualifies as a Halloween movie can be far more than any other holiday (I'm looking at you Presidents' day) because of the naturally spooky nature of this blessed day. Additionally, I am not someone that scares easily at movies, so when a movie really makes me squeamish I hold it close to my chest and cherish it. With all that out of the way, here is my 10 movies (in no particular order) that I would recommend for fun Halloween time:
I Saw the Devil (2010)
The Witch (2015)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Hereditary (2018)
Train to Busan (2016)
The Shining (1980)
Trick r' Treat (2007)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
It Comes At Night (2017)
Get Out (2017)
You put any of these on and I'm having a great time. My favorite part about this list is I have so many more movies to watch. I have missed plenty over the years that I need to take the time to watch at some point in my life, and that could change this list in a year or two! There are also plenty of movies not on my dumb ol' list of favorites that are ABSOLUTELY worth watching and should be seen...and a few that shouldn't be seen (looking at you, Halloween Kills). I love seeing what others will recommend to give me an idea of what to watch next, and isn't that what this is all about? Halloween is a time of coming together, of celebrating our accomplishments and journeys through our walks of life and being thankful that we have some time to appreciate how wonderful we all are. To me...that truly is the Spirit of Halloween.
