Here's My Top-10 Favorite Halloween Films

Here's My Top-10 Favorite Halloween Films

I can think of few things better than throwing on a good movie during spooky season. More often than not, I want something scary, gory, thrilling, and original. In making this list, I realized most of the movies are from post-2000 (how ~milennial~of me). In no particular order, here are some of my favorites:

  • Train to Busan (2016): Incredibly acted, gut-wrenching, and suspenseful. My favorite movie of this genre. I had no idea a zombie movie could tug at my heartstrings in such a way.

  • The Host (2006): I've seen virtually everything Bong Joonho has directed and this is a favorite for sure--just a blast from start to finish. True to form, Bong makes a statement through this film as well.

  • Hereditary (2018): Another super well-acted film. This one is so brutal that you want to cover your eyes...but you also can't seem to look away.

  • Midsommar (2019): This one had me hooked from the beginning. It's a long one (2hr 20min) and a bit of a slow burn, but a very unique concept executed beautifully...and horrifyingly.

  • House on Haunted Hill (1959): A legitimate horror classic. Genuinely scary and simultaneously funny.

  • Scream (1996): I can't believe I made it to my 30s before I saw this movie. I love that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Perfect for movie night with friends.

  • The Cabin in the Woods (2011): This movie is so darn good. I have never seen anything like it before. Completely original and incredibly fun to watch.

  • Audition (1999): This movie is not for the faint of heart. It is shocking and disturbing, but not overly gory. It messes with your head and makes you wonder whose side you're on.

  • I Saw The Devil (2010): HOLY CRAP THIS MOVIE IS INCREDIBLE. Another long one (2hr, 24min) but it legitimately flies by. There was never a time when I wasn't on the edge of my seat when I was watching this. This is a revenge thriller with tons of horror elements. Seriously, just watch it.

  • The Ring (2002): I saw this one in theaters at the tender age of 13 (hey, it's rated PG-13, no one tell on me). It was such a fun theater experience and it's still fun to rewatch almost 20 years later.
